   Maintain the water chemistry, process monitors used at the plant.  Calibrate, maintain, and perform preventative maintenance on the instruments according to manufacturers’ guidelines.  Examples include continuous pH, conductivity, sodium, dissolved oxygen, silica, phosphate, turbidity, chlorine, oxidation-reduction potential, and oxygen scavenger analyzers.  (This pertains to just the “wet” side of instruments and not to electrical and electronic components.)

       Review water chemistry programs, compare to established industry guidelines, and make recommendations for improvement.

    Inspect sample cooler and conditioning systems and perform minor repairs as needed.  (For example, change out a valve, flow meter, piece of tubing, or filter element.)  Make recommendations for systems in need of minor upgrades.

     At request, take chemical readings during upset/abnormal/startup conditions and prescribe corrective action.  (a.k.a. chemical technician, station relief) Provide facility visits on either a planned schedule or unplanned (call-out) basis depending on customer need.

 

    Provide environmental chemistry consulting services to ensure compliance with discharge permits.  Make recommendations with regards to use of valid sampling procedures, analytical test methods, and outside laboratory selection.

        Write bid specifications for packaged analyzer systems, bulk chemicals, proprietary chemicals, outside testing services, rental demineralizers, and water treatment equipment.

 

        Collect samples in the field, deliver to testing laboratories, and report results with interpretative analysis.

 

        Provide water chemistry training, both hands-on and in a classroom environment.

 

        Maintain housekeeping in water sampling/testing areas.  Manage hazardous materials.  Provide safety training.
